Right . 2 years worth of sawing , splitting , moving it , stacking it , skinned shims , new saws and blades etc etc etc .momoney I'll pick up the phone next winter ...........damn !

When you pick up the phone be sure you’re sitting down. A face cord in our area goes for$160.00. A full cord is $340.00. A 60cc 24” Husqvarna saw is about $600.00. Two cords of wood and the saw is paid for. The labor adds to your character, and leaves more money in your wallet for toys, trips, and beer.

"The firewood you cut yourself warms you twice".
I agree to both , although I think it's more like 10 times . I only have a few logs left that are 49" diameter . Almost there .

I hear ya!
I’ve been buying loads of logs the last few years. Half the work is already done. Fuel oil was $2 a litre last winter so wood in my boiler it is.
My goal is to build a firewood processor like Greg ( F350CA ) from this forum.

Martin what are you paying down your way for a load of logs? This year mine was $1583 with the tax in.
I'd say more than half the work, would take some time to drag a log truck load of logs out of the bush, even if I owned the property.

What’s on a log truck ? 18 bush cord?
I’m paying $600 for a trailer load from a local arborist. about 12-15 face cord. Hard to find guys here to bring a truck load. I have eight acres of bush but it’s a short window to get logs out when it’s froze. I cut wood, only in the winter, not summer or spring. Like you say, half the work is getting the wood from the bush to the barn.

We pay about $140/ cord for 8 -10ft green white and red oak logs from a local landowner. It takes me about a day to cut up a year's supply of firewood and my wife splits and stacks the wood for drying. We are currently working on firewood for the '25-'26 season. We heat almost exclusively with wood with an LP furnace for backup. We haven't had the 250 gallon tank filled for almost two years. Heating costs run around $400/yr.
