If he has a debit card, see if you can convince him not to use it except for in-person at ATM. NO PURCHASES with debit card.

Get rid of Debit cards. There is no protection on them from cleaning out your bank account!
Use credit cards instead. There is some protection there and not direct connection to a bank account.

Wish you the best. It is hard to have rolls reversed and have to be the parent. Looks like you are on the right track. It isn’t easy.

My Mom refused to allow me to guide her. She really did some not so smart stuff at the end. Still sorting this out 10 months after her death. Wished she had listened to me - I've had to spend a lot of money and time on legal stuff to get through this. With any luck I'll have the estate settled next week. It's been about 6 months of horrible legal wrangling.

Please, please everyone, don't let your parents fall into these traps. It's so hard (and expensive) to clean up afterwards.

+1 on this. Credit cards offer protection, debit cards offer practically no protection.
