I picked up 2 sets of these Dorian tool posts. I have 2 lathes. a 14/40 and a 12/40 It fit the 14 ok but too tall for the 12. I called Dorian they just said to buy a new one. Does anyone know how to take it apart so I can make a thinner riser for it?

There should be a nut to take it of the stud. Could be a spanner nut. Pic of the top of it would help

Is there a nut on the top that has two indentations for a spanner wrench? If yes, removing that retainer should allow it to come apart. Should look something like this:

Edit: seems we were typing at the same time…lol

Looks like the bottom spacer is “pinned” to the TP body.

I’d start by removing those 3 set screws and then see if it will “unscrew” from the center threaded insert. Or maybe the whole schmozzle will slide out of the TP body once the grub screws are removed…

the 3-set screw only hold a very small spring and ball bearing. tried that

Have you tried alittle persuasion. To me that spacer and stud should drop. Will either one spin?

yeah tried a lot of persuasion. like clamped it in a vise and beat it. but nothing. Dorian said it did not come off but that doesn't make sense to me.

It was put together, it has to come apart.
It was not made as one piece.
