I have drill bits I really like, multiple sets from Winter's Drill Bit City.
I have noticed that the chips don't like to come out of the flutes when deep drilling.
I was using 5/16" bit going 2" deep thru hole on MS. I ended up doing alot of pecking.
Is there a bit or flute design or coating that will improve this?

Are you at about 1200 RPM?

You might want to try using a parabolic drill for deep holes. The flute configuration increases the amount of chips that can be ejected. I would only use them in a rigid machine as opposed to a hand drill. They have a tendency to pull themselves into the material if not held in a rigid fixed position.

Here's a picture of one. Notice the open flutes as compared to a standard jobber drill.

I can try one of those, I had seen that style before but didn't know what they were for or what they were called.

I will have to check on RPM, I know it was slow, maybe too slow.

I bought a MT3 BXA tool holder, I love it! Most of the holes I drill don't need to be that accurate so I can get away with eyeballing the cross slide alignment. It makes pecking so much faster!

You can manually pull the whole tailstock back to eject the chips, saves on wheel turning.
Tried that too. I need to get a box wrench to fit instead of the open end, it is tedious to keep picking it up to loosen. A box wrench could be left on the nut.
