Hello,
I'm new to the forum.
I have made it a habit over time to try to us products in all sorts of applications that are either environmentally friendly or safe to use. it's always a challenge. yes they don't always have the best performance, but that is the trade-off. I was watching a YouTube video that one of the name brand cutting oils produce terrible vapours when used in the shop.
currently, I would only be using a cutting oil at a drill press And tapping threads and don't ever plan to use it outside of that.
I therefore started looking into a food grade cutting oil From a well-known brand thinking that would be safer ( vapours or smoke). after reading the safety data sheets, it is clear to me that even foodgrade products can be hazardous to the health. but it is unclear to what degree. some vapours (Outside of cutting Oil applications) are not great for you, and some are very harmful.
I have also read that some people use canola oil, but the downside is the viscosity changes pretty quickly and it can go rancid over time. I wouldn't use it outside of a drill press as it would need to be cleaned out after use.But even for a drill press, I would use it if it was good for that
so the question is,
which Cutting oil products produce the least amount of harmful vapours or smoke during use? Which have low VOCs?
