Banned from another forum???

I was thinking that if they think pine is difficult to work with, oak, ash, cherry, etc. must be nightmares for them.

A friend kept sending me posts from another forum. Not mentioning where. It's a woodworking forum. I have been a member of some other ww forums for many, many years. But he kept saying I needed to get on this, that I can share, and bring some good info. I view it more of young group of 20 and 30 somethings.
Well I have been banned after a few posts.

Someone mentioned that pine was a difficult wood to work (with total conviction and knowledge) that it was hard to join it, and work it.

I disagreed, and said it was easy, that you needed practice, sharp chisels and knowledge (related to how the wood is working) sometimes you can go for a large chop with a chisel and sometimes you have to keep them short and remove the waste.

They all piled on, started calling me a troll, and then banned me.

Hard to believe that I got banned that quickly. Having read many of their posts, We are doomed by people who have watched so many videos they are experts without having actually done work. One person actually said that sharpening was a lost art, because it's so easy to just buy sharp chisels...

Finding out that I was unable to disagree with a respectful comment and get banned has me in utter disbelief . I watched as someone bought a pre-finished wood top, bought legs, and proclaimed the he had done woodworking , and proceeded to show off his table.. He literally attached legs to a table.. (metal legs). That was not woodworking.. that was assembly. Ikea type assembly. While I respect it as it is. I found it to be less woodworking and more look what I bought.

Anyway, when my friend gets back from vacation, I'll let him know what a horrible idea this was for me.
Damn never has, never will be experts. I worked at a place where I found people like that. They did something once and were experts.. Not real people. Why are there so many of them?
Bad for them. GOOD for you! Count your blessings that you did not waste too much time there.

I rarely watch "unboxing" videos. I mean, do I really care how they pack a product? They rarely have much useful review content. Better to view a video from a reviewer than has used and demonstrates the use of a "gadget" in several ways. I also do not have any problem moving the slider bar to skip around. In fact I do this with probably 80% of the vids I watch. My Peeve is when the title is something useful or interesting like. "New way to recover SpaceX Boosters" and then they start with talking about the Sputnik launch and Starliner and Gemini and and and and.... Just click bait and no real content. I skip around but unless it is a regular dependable provider, it often can't even find where they address the title.

Still even with it's problems, I think the world is a better place with YouTube. I am OK with taking the responsibility to separate fact from fiction and experience from bluster if that is the price for getting tremendous amounts of useful information in an easily digestible format for free.

I was banned from a garden tractor forum, plead my case with the owner to no avail and sent him a message that I was sorry for his hurt feelings and that I wished him and the forum well add moved on. This was over posting ( across the street ) about being less critical and more friendly at the other forum. Still burns my behind to this day. Glad here its a better experience!

for some reason i found this particularly hilarious. perhaps because it is an excellent distillation with all that is foolish and messed up with this situation, and the general zeitgeist of the current 'expert unboxing socks for views' era.

FWIW i am building a complex door/sidelight system out of pine right now and there have been moments i audibly laughed at how easy and forgiving (the clients home brewed twisted/knotty/checked) pine is to work with. Haven't had that pleasure in ages.

I guess this is true if you buy the cheapest POS knife or chisel, but those don't usually have a very good edge to begin with. With decent chisels starting at $15-20 each just tossing them and buying new every time one gets dull is going to get expensive quickly.

Cheaper and easier to just buy something already built and then tell people you made it.
