Banned from another forum???

A friend kept sending me posts from another forum. Not mentioning where. It's a woodworking forum. I have been a member of some other ww forums for many, many years. But he kept saying I needed to get on this, that I can share, and bring some good info. I view it more of young group of 20 and 30 somethings.
Well I have been banned after a few posts.

Someone mentioned that pine was a difficult wood to work (with total conviction and knowledge) that it was hard to join it, and work it.

I disagreed, and said it was easy, that you needed practice, sharp chisels and knowledge (related to how the wood is working) sometimes you can go for a large chop with a chisel and sometimes you have to keep them short and remove the waste.

They all piled on, started calling me a troll, and then banned me.

Hard to believe that I got banned that quickly. Having read many of their posts, We are doomed by people who have watched so many videos they are experts without having actually done work. One person actually said that sharpening was a lost art, because it's so easy to just buy sharp chisels...

Finding out that I was unable to disagree with a respectful comment and get banned has me in utter disbelief . I watched as someone bought a pre-finished wood top, bought legs, and proclaimed the he had done woodworking , and proceeded to show off his table.. He literally attached legs to a table.. (metal legs). That was not woodworking.. that was assembly. Ikea type assembly. While I respect it as it is. I found it to be less woodworking and more look what I bought.

Anyway, when my friend gets back from vacation, I'll let him know what a horrible idea this was for me.
Damn never has, never will be experts. I worked at a place where I found people like that. They did something once and were experts.. Not real people. Why are there so many of them?
There’s so many because the world is slap full of ******* idiots

You can't teach those who don't want to learn.
You can't train those who minimize all details.
I don't feel bad for you being banned I feel bad for those who will live in the future.
YouTube is FULL of people trying to show/teach others what they don't know.
for the sake of views or digital status.
Smile and know that you know a craft and shrug your shoulders.
In these days people want knowledge/skills in a pill form, instantly ,but don't want to put any effort in to learning.
P.S. Yes I know of a scattering of real talent on YouTube, but it is just that, a small scattering.
Amen Brother. The world is full of idiots. A lot of them on YouTube. I am a hobbyist machinist but a life long Professional Automotive Technician therefor I see my fair share of young morons coming through the shops that think they are Mechanics because they watched a YouTube video and changed their oil. Either that or there’s ones that may have a shot but want all the glory of a lifelong mechanic right from the start

Today there is no requirement to learn the base Knowledge of any "Art" the foundation on which all else is built.

#1 Culprit --> The Internet - Social Media, YouTube & Forums just hurl blind knowledge, Gives Instant Gratification, no clarification is needed... Its quite literally a Monkey see Monkey do society these day... No one is taught critical thinking, because feeling are what matter most.

Its really this simple, and its only getting worse...

We live in a world devoid of reality, and are two generations removed from the possibility of people getting punched in the mouth for their poor behavior.

I don't advocate violence, but back when a curse word in front of the elderly, or a leering look at someone's wife/GF/daughter that could get you into a confrontation people were much more well behaved.

I’ve been on a bunch of them, gained what I could and left. Sometimes it starts to get to me and I go to the shop and really do something, not hear strangers I will never meet tell me about it. I have had people chew me out because I would not do something their way. Life is too short. Those people who respond every 5 minutes are surely not working in the shop.

Very much this.

I watched a YTer do a detailed breakdown on how to check a surface grinder 6 ways to Sunday for accuracy, and have seen that bleed over here in the relatively short time I've been here. People see it on video and think it must be the way.

Its not, you're not making parts for NASA.

Then again I had a professional welder tell me that welding two parts together will not cause them to distort, and he was adamant about it.

Be wary of whos information you accept from either end of the spectrum.

It’s the same with a lot of the DYI TV shows, news reports and others. No vetting, no concept of reality, just spew/repeat crap out their mouths like they’re an expert while they don’t have a clue.
Two words......BLACK MOLD!!!

Those DIY shows got my wife so friggin stirred up over black mold I nearly walked the hell out. There's something like 27 different kinds of black mold, 2 types are a health hazard for people with certain conditions.

I don't have a problem with utube, I have a problem with the expectation of being an expert on your first try with out a y experience.
But I also have a problem with their expertise with out having done the time.

I get very amused when they are building /using something for the first time. Unboxing the new tool. Screw up and don’t even edit the video. You can cut the errors out. I wish they would show the final product first. Probably could make it if I saw it, can’t even see if I want one till the end.
