Bandsaw types ?

All I can say is it isn't so good to cut metal on a saw that has been previously used for wood. The insides of the saw will undoubtedly have some sawdust. Cutting metal can create sparks which may ignite the sawdust. It's not theoretical. I had it happen with a belt sander. Fortunately I put it out immediately. I cleaned out the belt sander and don't use it for wood anymore. Not worth the risk to me.

I have (in my Rotterdam wood shop) a FERM FLZ-360, three wheel band saw. (14 in throat) It has three diameters of pulleys, one for sanding (no Idea how fast) one for wood cutting, it really buzzes by, and one for steel. (can't remember the numbers, they're metric). I'll report on it's speed and effect (assuming I have some steel to saw) when next I'm there.

Does anyone know of a source for 70 1/2" 1/2 in wide sanding belts? Here or in Europe? That would be 180 cm long.

Good thought about the sawdust, it's clean now, I'll try to keep it that way.

I think it’s possible to get a huge bargain in used bandsaws if you can go big enough, sort of like 10’ bed lathes.
This Jet bandsaw equivalent lists for around $15,000 but I paid $1300. I don’t know if the welder and grinder will ever get tuned up and reinstalled, but it’s not for sure I ever want to weld a blade in any event.

The speed range is very wide, as it has a 4 speed shift on the fly transmission and a Reeves drive…metal and/or wood would be no obstacle.

Did it come with an extra 18 sq ft of space? Space is kind of a thing for some of us. Lol
Yep, I understand. Well…I did give a wood workbench to the neighbor. So net was about zero, maybe even picked up a bit. :)

It's a gorgeous machine, a great score to get it at that price, looking to be in the same league as Stever Summer's "Do-All". My shop outhouse was maxed out at the legal limit to be able to put on my property at all, because I live in a National Park. The area was as much as I could get away with. It irks me to be considering "smaller", and "more portable", and "pack away" stuff, and trying to think up benches that can transform to release the machine they hide. Sure, in this place, I am often subjected to "tool-envy", but I want you to know there is such a thing as "space-envy", and I have got a case of it!
