Balance 4-jaw chuck for PM 1236

Good job on the balancing!

I balanced my 4 jaw in a similar fashion. Mine was good to about 400 rpm then it would really start shaking the lathe. It's good to over a 1000 rpm now.

Great to hear about your success. Just ran mine at 1200 setting without any shaking.

I am still curious, were the jaws gripping enough or did you need to support the back side of the chuck with a spider of something?

Made a unit to check the balance of my 4-jaw chuck. I bought a bicycle exerciser unit at a secondhand store for $5 bucks a while back. I disassembled it and turned a couple of bearing holders and a shaft to go between them. It seems to work, the best I can tell it's a little over a half ounce...

I understand what you were doing, Just wondering if the Jaws are enough or if it needs to be supported on the back side of the chuck due to its weight.
