Anyone else “nap”?

I used to have terrible dreams, which caused me to be utterly exhausted during the day. I HAD to take a nap every day, usually at 2pm. It really ****** me off because I have things to do. Then a doc prescribed trazodone. That changed my life. I can sleep through the night and not need a nap. Now, I'm not saying I don't mind a nap, but I usually can get through the day without one now. My dreams were considered vivid dreams, and a lot of times, they were violent. I believe they were PTSD-triggered, but not for what most of you are probably thinking.
Your ex wife was that bad, eh?

Maybe I'm projecting. I still have nightmares about mine and we split 20 years ago.

I'm usually up at 4 or 5. I run until 9 to 10-10:30. That can vary according to the seasons. Very few naps. I'm 74. No blood pressure meds, sleep disorders or the like. According to a family member I'm just a little nuts. It's fun; I do not want any cure for that condition.

Yes I nap. Having the schedule opportunity to nap may be part of it. Blood sugar also runs up after lunch and makes you drowsy. My father always called it “letting your dinner settle”.

Everybody has a different rhythm and having always worked in and around AG mine is living like a farmer. Up at dawn and go to bed when it’s dark. My nite owl relatives have always thought I was crazy but I truly do feel crazy if I start trying to live like they do. So up by 5am and usually in bed between 8-9pm. Best of all my wife is the same. My x was a nite owl, that did not work.

Just turned 70.

Most of my life was on the nightshift 12 hrs per night . Sure didn't need naps during the day usually . I had many a split sleep sessions over the years that messed me up . I now have 2 siblings back home along with the 3 shelties . My last gig was on the nightshift once again and I could not do it . Impossible to sleep during the day with appointments and commotion thru out the house . I'm off now , maybe go back part time on a as needed basis .

During my working career like you I spent a lot of time on night and off shifts. In most cases a 12-hour shift was a short shift. However, I wasn't tied to a production line, but rather there to diagnose unusual problems, supervise installation of machine improvements, or the construction and remodeling of existing buildings and production lines.

Most of the time was spent on the road for periods of 2 weeks to 2 months. The first 3 years I worked for the company I was on the road for every holiday. That's when the production lines stopped, so that's when we came in to do our work. There were years when I spent more than 200 days on the road. In my case the pay was worth it, and since we both worked full time and didn't have kids it made life a little easier. It may sound a little odd to most, but I loved the job. Everyone worked well together, the jobs were all completed on time, and on budget, and all the participants (both hourly and salaried) were well rewarded for their efforts.

I started napping in my 20s. I'd slip off from the lab about quarter after 2, go upstairs to the unused lab, put my feet up and close my eyes for about 20 minutes. For a long time 10-20 minutes was enough, but now it is closer to an hour. I have noticed that all I actually need is to go out for a few minutes. I believe it's in our programming, chimpanzees and gorillas nap in the afternoon.

Naps are one of the great joys of life.

For the last7 or so years I've been getting up at night 2-3 times for for a visit to the bathroom. These visits disrupt my sleep cycle. So by 200 pm I'm in for a 30 minute nap. This only really a happens in the winter when I've got nothing else to do as my shop is closed for the winter months. Comes summer the shop is open so I'm pretty busy and can do with out a nap. Comes 10.30 or 11.00 its bed time and I actually sleep more soundly till nature calls. I'm dealing with a foot injury right now and am hobbling on crutches. In order to keep pressure off my foot I invested in a hospital urnal. So now I don't have to fight my way to the bathroom. I works so good I might keep it even after my foot heals. A friend who is 93 and a retired urologist has been using one for a few years.
