932 vs 954 Bronze for cross slide nut

Is 954 too hard to make a cross slide nut out of?

I'd say so, it is like heat treated yellow alloy steel! Cast iron could be a good choice, or a lesser hard bronze, but not 660 bronze which is regular bearing bronze and would not hold up so well for the longer term. I think that 954 is an alloy containing aluminum and nickel. Regular aluminum bronze such as Ampco 18 is a pita as well, perhaps a phosphor bronze may be a better choice.
