So I finally have some lathe work I can actually show off. Typically I can’t show any parts I make. I am very happy with how these came out.
Material is 17-4 stainless h900 at 47hrc (I checked with my Rockwell tester to make sure. So it not quite hard turning but it also is not soft.
All diameters on the part came out to within .0002”.
It was very tricky to turn such a long skinny part so I did it in steps and if you look closely the lines can be seen.
The part is just for a forum member of a different forum i am a member of. The part probably costs less than $10 normally but he couldn’t find any in stock.
I forgot to take picture on the machine but for my first operation it came straight out of 3/4 bar stock sticking way out of the chuck 2.5”
Then I grabbed an er20 collet chuck and flipped the part to finish the stem because there was a feature I couldn’t reach from the 1st side.
