This almost makes me want to install an extra camera for every machine I have that's able to run unattended......lol

I like and use cameras of several types. What kind of camera(s) are you using? IP or USB or other? Brand? Also, what monitoring program?
Thanks

Its a Hikvision NVR and an POE PTZ camera....

I install commercial security systems for a living....

I like Hikvision and have several around my house. I used to use NVR but found that I rarely moved them around so over time have switched to Fixed mounting. Never thought to have a camera just to monitor machine progress through. Also POE has made life so much simpler for installation.

Be wary. The Hikvision and other white box Chinese IP cameras required connecting to the Chinese cloud to come online a few years back. I could not run a standalone network of Hikvision IP cameras without hacking TCP redirection and faking out the responses the cameras required. If I wasn't so cheap, I would buy the white box camera development kits and build my own firmware to secure them, but I struggle having me camera feeds all available to external and untrusted people.

Right now I run an NVR (network video recorder) that seems to be okay (not dialing home to the motherland) on a network that can't initiate a request to the internet. The main home network can connect to the camera network, but the camera network can't get out.

I use hikvision and do NOT connect to the cloud. Just configured with dedicated IP addresses and then monitor via BlueIris.

Even with the no-cloud-connection on a static ip address, I would run Wireshark and power cycle the cameras... and I would still see the outbound internet connections from the cameras to APNIC addresses. After blocking, some cameras would fail that outbound connection and power cycle because it was embedded in the boot process as a requirement. So, i checked the responses they were looking for, and found that it had nothing to do with any firmware updates or video feed configuration.

My internet of things paranoia peaked before I ever started working in cybersecurity, and then it only got worse once I had access to the FBI news feeds.

I spent about 4 hours in my big garage, with almost no visible difference that i've done anything, there was a lot of garbage everywhere. I did some sorting storing parts, tires i had this engine mount and stand for a lada engine, so i hang the engine block that i bought for measurements, i turn it over removed the timing chain, there was couple of bolts and broken pieces plastic chain guides. I did take off the oil pan to see how it looked on the inside, no big surprise inside, i may be able to put together one good engine from it and the one in my little niva, not that i'll want to use it again. You can see the italian design and russian built, everything is twice as thick as it needs to be.
