2016 POTD Thread Archive

finished the 1/2-13LH threaded arbor needed to mount a treadmill flywheel on the lathe. It's a tight enough fit that it doesn't move under normal cuts, but I'll keep an eye on it. Not much clearance to the ways (it's an Atlas 618)!

What exactly are you doing to the treadmill pulley? Mine is also a threaded mount onto the motor, which uses a 'different' serpentine setup

I'm going to turn down the multi-V boss to mount a standard V-pulley to match it up to the intermediate pulley on my drill press

here's the pulley - ID is 1" by 0.5"

that set screw (plus possibly another one) will also go through the flywheel boss to tighten against a flat on the motor shaft, to prevent the flywheel from unscrewing.

Dang, that's a good idea. Never thought of that.

I was looking at removing the armature and turning the shaft down to put the TM motor on my drill press.

I'll have to have a look at this option now.

:)

Made a replacement retaining pin for my 2" square trailer hitch adapter. about 2 hours including putting the 4" rotating vise on the mill (did not try to square it up). Two holes 3/16" diameter in a 5/8" rod 3-3/4" long. Got stuck in a snow bank, took a shortcut when mounting the hitch, did not install retaining pin but put in my pocket, drove off to let traffic by, remembered about shortcut on fist stop--found hitch adapter still in square tube. Hell to get old.
Have a good day!

you're welcome :) I didn't have enough meat on the multi-v-rib boss to turn the pulley in it directly and it would probably turn out too small anyway, but I did have a garage sale find pulley with a nice thick side to it, so..

I'm planning on taking the armature out of the motor, mounting the flywheel and pulley, then checking the pulley runout (and overall balance) between centers to reduce any unwanted vibration.

No pictures yet, but I got the motors mounted and wires connected for my G0704 2 axis CNC conversion. I'm hoping to get the enclosure and internals wired up soon.
