I found a usable gizmo to upgrade my bike shop. I picked up this clamp on Amazon for about $50. It is a wall mount. I don't have suitable wall, so I mounted it on my gantry. It is small enough that storage won't be such an issue and I can adapt it to a freestanding stage speaker stand (if I can find it). I know I have one around here, somewhere.

Sorry it took so long getting back on this. 1) spousal duties required attention elsewhere and 2) I had to make the keeper. uh....I had to make two keepers, the first one was wrong. (snip)

Tom,
Do you notice vibration or change in surface finish at higher spindle RPM? You could always add a second keeper at 180° from the first to recover 'balance'.

I'm old school, slow and steady wins the race. I cut off in the slowest gear the machine has, back gear, large pulley. The 'chip' comes off in a smooth, tinfoil like, stream. That's aluminum, steel chips in little curls. smooth as silk. I'm not looking to make time, more like doing something to use more time.
As to balance, remember that's a 4" chuck, not a lot of mass to get out of balance.
As to another keeper, it takes about 225 strokes with the hack saw to cut off a piece from the bar, not something I do for fun.

Thank you very much Roadie33 aka Mike
That is exactly what I've been wanting to see
I suppose the arm is exactly a foot from the center of the pivot at the chuck end to the tip of the pointer so you get accurate representation at the scale or is yours different , if so how , & why is it different ?

Regards

Dave

I made a 3 drawer chest for my Kennedy box to sit on. I need more storage with the acquisition of a new milling machine and associated tooling. This will likely hold layout tools, mics, dial and test indicators, and other lighter stuff. It is made of knotty alder, pine for the drawer sides, and 5mm ply for the drawer bottoms. Blue felt and finished with Formby's low gloss tung oil finish. I have a smaller version of this I made a few years ago for my guitar building tools and love it. Simple construction with pocket screws and butt joints.
