1/6th scale 1890's 30ft navy steam cutter (live steam)

there wont be any rats onboard with two cats

the cats on the model will be hard tac (keeper of the main deck, so good at keeping vermin from coming aboard that some sailors have a tough time returning from liberty) the other being lady nyx ( huntress of the lower decks,, known to parade with her kill between the hamocks to the cheers of sleepy sailors) the story of the day will be that their kittens have reached the age to get billeted to other ships of the fleet.. cats were part of the crew, valued and considered good luck.. When the rescue boats returned to the wreck of the USS Maine at daybreak they were met by Tom the ship's cat, the only living soul left aboard.. it was said he kept watch over the dead through the night..

work on the coal bunkers,, the brass will get DIY plating to look like the galvanized steel that is called for.. the sailor proof sliding doors do work so I might make it look like some coal behind them.. rigged sliding mounts so the bunkers can be easily removed.. still have to finish the ash tops with the steel filling hatches..

the plans show the bunkers made from galvanised steel so staying brass colored had to change, decided to learn DIY electroplating.. going with nickel as a first try,, a few bumps in the learning curve but things seem to working out..

with the aft water-tank boxes installed found my plans and waxes for the condensate were a bit to large,, redrew them to a better size,, came to the conclusion that the pump could be machined, milled and soldered,, got a start on it this morning.. fun to back in front of the mill again..

got into a barrel making discussion,, another modeler needs to make a good sized round water barrel for the "Stephenson Rocket Locomotive" he is working on,, I knew my boat would have carried a drinking water cask,, and I have the drawings,, a little more complex as it has an oval cross-section and was made with alternating ash and cherry staves, a form and steam-bent staves was my plan and it worked, just need to add the brass hoops,, (yes a little metal work) the spigot is a small dogwood turning, dogwood is close to metal work!! hard, tight and heavy...
