Yes, I think steam would be easier to start with, I’m not against IC but doubt I can handle it now.

These are great post.... Not to steal the thread but, I have always thought it would be cool to build a Steam engine big enough to drive a 200 Amp auto alternator for charging batteries for off grid living as a fail safe for when the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't blow and if it were in a cold climate a wood stove could be used to steam the boiler while heating the home.....
