Work Shop Talk - Cleaning Sanding Belts & Sanding Discs Easily

I use a gum rubber stick for for lite cleaning of my belts. However to remove heavy build up of wood tar, burnt wood, glue and varnish. I use spray oven cleaner. Follow safety instructions on can. Let set for about 1 hour and wash with plenty of water. Hang to dry.
Thanks for the tip, that's a new one for me. Cheers.

I have used the rubber sticks or blocks for years to clean my 6x48 belt and 9" disc sander. The blocks are readily available from any number of woodworking supplies retailers. And as ddillman said, old crepe (or rubber soled) shoes will work too. A good use for old sneakers. In addition, regular erasers work well for cleaning diamond sharpening plates or hand-sanding blocks you might have in your shop.
