You'll be amazed at how the white wheel performs if you're used to using the standard grey wheels that come with your grinder. Makes quick work without dumping tons of heat into the tool that you're grinding.

Don’t forget belt grinders work well for grinding lathe tools. They seem to keep the tools much cooler.

talking to a "real tool maker" today about which wheel to get for HSS tooling , he claims to stay away from any fine grit wheels and stick with medium/ course , white or gray .........in my case having 2 wheel bench grinder am needing a diffrent grit for each side........ so gentleman what would you recommend ??

I use the standard, cheap, Aluminum Oxide wheels. I use a lot of HSS but I still don't spend enough time grinding to make it worth spending money to optimize.
