It looks like I’m going to have to have a back plate made for my lathe since it’s a weird 55mm spindle size so I’m trying to decide what size of chuck to get.
I have a 6.25” 3-jaw on there now but want a 4-jaw independent jaw as well. The question is 6” or 8”?
I’m tempted to go 8”, however, it weighs substantially more than the 6” and I’m not sure if my 1HP lathe is really meant for an 8” chuck.
ETA: On a side note I now know the difference between a threaded backing plate and a blank. The blanks have a 3” hub while something threaded in 1-1/2” x 8 that I could have threaded M55 only had a 2-5/8” hub. The hubs on my existing plates are 2-3/4” so pre-threaded won’t work.
