What Did You Buy Today?

Just ordered a Tormach 1100M cnc mill. Let the learning curve begin. lol
They had a deal going, $2000 worth of tooling with a machine purchase.
Should be here the end of Sept. Now I need to figure where to shoe horn it in.

$261 shipped for 19 tool holders (that I can count). I only got two QC30 holders when I bought the Bridgeport Boss3, so I'm hoping these will clean up nice with some degreaser followed by Evaporust.

This is what they cleaned up to:

And, I'm able to make use of all of them except these:

From top left, going clockwise:
  • It's a 30 taper, but not Erikson Quick Change, so it won't fit my Bridgeport
  • It's a little pitted from rust. Looks like an ER collet, but just the base of an ER-32 fits
  • Still a 30 taper, but I don't know what sort of machine uses those round pegs
  • 30 taper, but that huge flange doesn't fit
  • A couple collets that don't seem to fit any of the holders
  • A small collet holder. Mayber ER-16, but I don't have any of those so can't rightly tell.

Order of magnitude, what do those cost now???

Eisen 1324GHE Lathe came in today. My current lathe is a 13x40 but I very rarely even use half the bed length, so this one has had my eye for a few years. First visual inspection is the machine looks very good. I've got to get started on fabricating a stand now. This is the second 1324GHE shipped to me as TForce Freight decided to slaughter the first one in shipping. The guys at Eisen were very quick to react and get a replacement shipped out (via Saia).

First lathe looks like it rolled over as the crate is totally gone and all the components obviously were tossed. I learned my lesson accepting a freight damaged machine in the past (also TForce Freight) and just won't deal with that again. I can't imagine what TForce freight must pay in insurance claims daily.

Follow up report on something I bought and posted here- the China U3 toolhead for 5c with pass-thru plus indexing for $90 on eBay for my Sheckel.

First, I had to double up gibs because the dovetail is too narrow... that held and was rigid enough, but what's appalling is the fit between the bore and spindle. It's sloppy. I measured it to 1.4952 and 1.5009. that's .0057 worth of wobble in under 2.5" of supported length not counting the .003 out-of-round in the bored part. So with an inch or two of stickout, it's like whoooa nelly. That ain't gonna cut it. Precision is gone, and grind finish is out the window, too. I could bore and sleeve it, or put exotic thin bearings in it, but I'm thinking more along the lines of fork this carp, junk is junk.

So now you know, and knowing is half the battle!

Unless you take out special coverage when shipping LTL their "insurance" won't cover much of anything.

I thought I'd like one of those, guess not, Thanks

Well went to go pick up the cincinatti and a few more things followed me home. 15 bucks each on the small stuff, 250 on the bandsaw and 300 for the kurt.
