What Did You Buy Today?

Fair enough, raw material cost here vs imported machined goods imported and shipped from China. Dunno, how it's so much cheaper, though. Has to be some sort of subsidies involved.
Pardon my stupidity, (too much sun?) but can't you make those parts on your lathe? They're roundy things, right? Do they have special bearings? It's hard for me to tell through the wrapping.

Oh, indeed they are. Roundy and aluminium-y. And all under 8" diameter, at that.

But sometimes I can't turn them as cheaply as a barefoot chinese kid can. I hope it's enough to get him some proper shoes.

These wheels are made of billet 6061 aluminum right here in the USA on a precision CNC lathe center. I provided the link in the original post…

I could have melted the aluminum, cast the blanks, and machine them myself…

Who the heck am I kidding!!! By the time I learn to do all that… nah, I wanted to buy them all ready to go, and from a USA source, even if I paid more than the Chinese alternative…

Please re-post the link. I looked back about a month but couldn't find it. You are a prolific contributor to WDYBT.
:D It was hyperlink in the "wheel set" - here is the direct link as well: https://www.knifegrinderparts.com/p...eel-set-5-drive-5-8-4-tracking-2-idler-wheels

The plans for the 2"x72" are from Jeremy Schmidt (Jerswoodshop) - those I got via his store front on Etsy:

I got plans for the grinder and for all the attachments. Really looking forward to cutting all the pieces and building it.

Here is his YouTube channel:

Unless you could turn , polish , champher , broach and press bearings into these parts in less than 2 hours you did the right thing @wachuko ! :encourage:

Check out my belt grinder...

I used six consecutive weekends re-making the wheels until they tracked right...

Yeah, that might not make you look nearly as cool as the guy who is grinding blades while you're still dumpster diving for aluminum drops.

Is this where DIY goes wrong? Probably not, but you shouldn't say "hey, lookit what I bought!" Instead, it's "I outsourced my pulleys so I could advance my frame design." Oooh, that sounds way cooler, Papi!

I am tempted to buy them so I can start a new project.

A bunch of “while stock lasts” Facom pliers, files, and file handles.

Now that Facom has been acquired by Stanley, a lot of the “Made in France” -stuff has been discontinued.

Luckily there is still SAM Outillage. They’re independent AFAIK.
I have some facom wrenches and I don't like the sharp edges on the handles. Why did they do that?
