What Did You Buy Today?

It will take time, but I can try to learn it…
I saw the post with what appears to be lyrics from a cultural revolution era song… (yowza)

I thought, huh, I wonder if he can read Chinese characters.

Then I wondered the derivation of “Wachuko” and if it was sort of Japanese.

和 is pronounced “wa” and means either peace or Japanese vs Western (e.g. washoku for Japanese food, youshoku for western food).

中古 is pronounced “chuuko” and means used goods or second hand goods.

Then I saw the picture of his welding splurge and not being able to meet his wife’s eye.

So nope!

Nothing used there nor anything obviously Japanese. And “peace” will likely involve something waayyyy more elaborate and expensive than a cricut!

Today, the man in brown polyester delivered three plow discs. I don't have a connection for plow discs, it's pretty urban around here. I was surprised to find a couple of people selling them on ebay, thought the shipping would be prohibitive because they're big and a little heavy being 3/16 steel. Came out to $30 a piece delivered, less the state's cut.

The Jet is mounted on a disc. The pedestal grinder below is no longer going to need anchor bolts to use. Watch the project of the day thread soon.

Today, part 2:

A new development for Sheckel cutter grinders (Shars Deckel, make it searchable), a new workhead is out that allows total pass-thru from the collet for grinding long tools. It's about half pound lighter- no bearings, no races. Despite its appearance, it only is meant to move in rotation, it does not function as a linear slide. I am really happy about this, tool length limitations were frustrating me. This provides another workaround to expand the little machine's capabilities!

Aaaaannd….the price of implement discs just shot through the roof on EBay…

Just kidding, but if you find you need something bigger sometime maybe have a sniff around your local shipyard metal shops. I scored two 30” discs that were “outcuts” from some big plate. And because of how they were cut (flame, I think) they ended up with a slight dish to the one side — perfect for my vise tree.

@wachuko, found a new purchase for you. It will rock your world.
Just found out in another thread about Edelstaal tooling, looked up online and saw a great deal.

Spent a few excited seconds thinking you were introducing me to some unfamiliar machinist tooling terminology.

Awww.

Used truck brake rotors are still free for the taking if you make friends (or enemies, now that I think about it) with a service station.

But there’s no chance to stub your toe on a plow disk. I like it! You’re forgiven.

I snagged a couple of rotors from a friend's commerical truck brake job. The plan was to make a stand for the forge from one of them. They're quite beefy. But with most things here, rusty...
