I though I would share this for those that are not sure about the right wrench for your ER nut. I have a friend that was confused over this so...

From what I gleaned over time:

'A' nuts are Hex
'M' nuts are round with squared off tops and side slots that reach the top .
'UM' nuts are round with tapered edge tops and side slots that reach the top.
'RU' nuts are same as 'M' and some 'UM' nuts except the slots exit the bottom of the nut. (like some bearing nuts)

Hence a type 'M' wrench is a round circle and cannot be used with a 'RU' type nut. It would be trapped there.

A 'UM' type wrench is a semicircle and can be used with both 'RU' and UM' type nuts since it can reach both the top and underside of the nut.

Like everything, there are other variations....

Here I was thinking you were referring to "C", Half-circle and full circle spanners ;)

Good advice though. Heck, I had cause to use a C spanner for the first time a few days ago given zero clearance between stock and nut.

I knew it was there somewhere  In this heat, it's tough to have tight nuts.

The joke is how to decide which is the proper spanner to tighten your nuts with ;)
Now I know I'm old. My mind just didn't go there. My friends will be ashamed of me. Sigh...

nah, these days no one is surprised by how low we can go. And that's pretty mild compared to other things....

I hope you are not offended, just saw a chance for some levity. Things have been very slow here lately. Wonder if it's the heat, yard work, or other distractions. I need to get some yard work done, but I think I tore my rotator cuff, and the ground is like concrete. I gave my pick axe and bars to my son for some work, so nothing to get through this hard, hard ground.

Still waiting on the rain Jeff before I do anything outside . The only thing growing is the weeds and they are doing GREAT ! :big grin: We did get some maters out of the garden and had BLT's last night . Damn those maters are good . :encourage: As far as rotator cuffs , I exploded mine while at the paper plant . Extremely painful for 18 weeks before I could get it fixed . Then another 3 months before I could get back to work . Now I think both are bad , or I'm just getting too friggin old to do the **** I do .

I have had surgery before. Rotator on my left and 3 tears in my cartilage on my right, I know the routine.i m looking to push the volleyball program on to a younger generation and get myself repaired. Been so many things mounting up.
