I have determined that the little retention tab that stops the gib from moving (as it surrounds the screw) has been broken off. I’m thinking it’s been this way for 30+ years as I just got it from my Grandpas estate 3 years ago and haven’t used it much.

What are my options to fix this as the gib has moved twice now and caused the cross slide to wedge solid.

I bought one from a similar Grizzly lathe and cut the groove where I thought it should be. The one on my Taiwan built 12x36 was missing when I got it so needed to get something to work.

Later, the guy I bought the machine from found it at his house (had belonged to his father). It was better, but the Grizzly one would have worked if I didn't get it from him.

Since you have your original you can make a replacement out of cast iron if you have a mill and patience. Search on here and you'll find detailed threads of guys making their own and scraping them in to get things as close to perfect as possible.

If you don't want to go to that length start looking on Grizzly's website for a machine that's similar to yours and take a chance on ordering one that looks close.

Post a picture of the whole machine so we can see what it looks like. I'm gonna bet it's like mine Samson (rebranded Tida).

Thanks for the replies! I’ll try to locate those threads.

It’s made in Taiwan if that matters.

That looks like mine, here’s the part I ordered from Grizzly.

Price has more than tripled since 2021 when I bought it but it’s probably worth a try. Can always return if it doesn’t work and I’m not sure you can buy a suitable piece of cast iron for less.

I’m guessing you still have to fit it, correct?

It’s tapered I’m guessing? It’s kind of hard to tell from the picture.

My new PM-833TV mill is supposed to be here Tuesday so making one from scratch may be an option. You are correct that cast iron is no longer cheap.

Here’s about the best price that I’ve found for cast iron.

Yes, tapered and a parallelogram. Not square….

Take yours out and you see

Yeah that’s what mine is as well. I’ll probably grab one as a starting point.

I did send an email to Precision Matthews asking them if they had any gibs for it as well as a long shot.

Don’t know if PM ever sold these. Mine is from the 80’s.

Yeah I doubt the did but maybe the gibs haven’t really changed much since then is my hope.

Mine is from 11/1980 according to its plate.
