Removing spindle from a Logan 820

I am trying to remove the spindle from a Logan lathe. I've removed the locknut from the rear, removed the bearing cap on the nose end.
Removed the set screws on the pulley and bull gear.
Hit the shaft with a heavy matlet, trying to drive it out the nose end, but it won't budge.

I've looked at photos of spindles of Logan lathes on ebay and can see nothing that would keep it fron going out towards the bed.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
