There's a Precision Matthews PM1127-VF-LB for sale a few hours away from me. I posted in the PM forum, but thought it would be better to post in this forum.

FROM THE SELLER
-Seller says the covers on the drive train were missing so he made some (new ones from Precision Matthews are $220).
-He thinks he has most of the accessories except a 4-jaw chuck (He will check).
-In addition, he has some extra change gears and a few control boards. The machine was wired wrong, and he bought the boards, then figured out how to fix the issue so he didn't need them.
-Used at a voc-ed school.

QUESTIONS
1. What's a fair price for these machines? This has been replaced by the 1130, which is $3900. Add DRO (+$600) and stand (+$400)=$4900. Tax is about $465. Shipping would be $250. A 4-jaw chuck is $180. The DRO it has is about $300 cheaper.

2. Is this an upgrade from my Atlas Craftsman 101.07403? I'm primarily looking for a much stiffer machine.

3. Does anyone have this lathe? Can you tell me any pros and cons? I didn't any posts in the PM section.

3. If anyone has this lathe, can you tell me some dimensions? I would like a few dimensions that are not available in the owner's manual. This is a 3-hour drive away and I want to have a really good idea of its size before I drive all that way. This might be about the biggest lathe I can fit in the space I have.

I think A is 17". Thanks @ivel03

Thoughts and comments welcome and appreciated! Thanks!

Thought that looked familiar, he's had them up for quite some time.

The $2800 he's asking isn't unreasonable but the shop made gear cover might put some folks off. I'd be surprised if 20 $100 bills didn't get one loaded in your truck.

3 weeks (so beginning of December), per the post. Do you think it's been longer, and reposted?

I'm thinking the same thing. I might have to show up with money; seller told me it was "priced to sell", which sounds to me like this is the lowest, but we'll see.

With the search function buggered up I can’t find the post but I’m pretty sure I pointed it out to another member here who was also looking for something to fit a small space.

Couldn’t hurt to look….

Personally I would not pay that for a machine which is obviously not original. I have trust issues, used at a vocational school, built covers, original equipment scattered..... not for me my friend. My best offer would be 1500 with an expectation of rebuilding it and possible internal and way wear.

It's definitely been longer than that.
They were available before I joined the Hobby-Machinist forum, and that was almost three months ago.

That same seller has (or had) a bunch of other lathes for sale on CL, including a Craftsman 12 x 36 (now priced at $650, but when I called him in October it was $1000) that is missing the compound slide but his ad claims it's ready to 'plug it in and have some fun'. Hmmmm...

I tried using Google to search and all I got was my posts and a few from way back when the machine first came out and people were waiting. They had nice things to say. There didn't seem to be anything recent.

Yeah, I have similar concerns. I need to see it and see what works and how it feels. I'm trying to set up a video call to get more information before I make the drive.

I think this is the thread John was looking for. FortyFive Palms was looking at the same lathe, maybe same seller?
