Pratt & Whitney Model C 12x30 lathe

Will do. I'll finish up the tailstock and then start in on it. Thanks!

Tail stock is almost ready to go back together. Finished cleaning it up today but still need to polish up the lock handles and hardware. Got a coat of paint on everything and I'll decide if I want to put anymore on during the week after work so it's ready to reassemble next weekend. I'm not doing filler due to time constraints. Just need to keep it preserved. Maybe I'll have time to give it the full @tailstock4 treatment when I'm retired! I would enjoy that. Lol I even managed to clean up the handwheel today. Hopefully, have time next weekend to start disassembling the carriage and apron.

That’s looking great

Looks a very similar colour to what I used on my lathe (Rustoleum Slate Grey)

I wanted to price some 4 jaw chucks and as I've learned the widely available model C operators manual is actually for a slightly newer version and some of the specs are incorrect so I've been verifying everything. Turns out mine has a MT5 tapered spindle hole unless I'm misunderstanding the marking on the spindle. The manual says it's tapered but doesn't say what standard it is.

That said, is a colllet closer something that would be worth pursuing? Don't know how much or why I'd need to use it. I thought why not get a 5mt to 5c adapter and use a drawbar to use my mill collets if I need a collet on the lathe?

After studying the outboard side of the spindle, I think a collet chuck would be a better option. There doesn't appear to be enough clearance or stick-out to easily do a closer.

Often, a collet chuck is a good choice on an old lathe. The ways near the spindle are worn the least and there can be a lot of variation in height near the head. Having the chuck avoids some of that difference in wear. Dave

Thanks for the tip! Didn't think about that. I've seen a few nice condition used handwheel type collet chucks but not sure what the preferred brands for those are.
A quick update on the lathe motor, the shop wants $1700 to put new bearings in it because they'd have to "do some machining" to make new bearings work because the old ones have extended center races. They're smokin' crack if they think I'm gonna bite. I told them I'll be there in the morning to pick it up! LOL This is the bearing in question:

I'll go use my buddy's benchtop lathe and make a set of spacers to make up for that extended center race thickness. At least they gave them a clean electrical bill of health.

Ha! Ebay saves the day. There are a bunch of NOS bearings on there for about $10 before shipping.

I was just posting about those WIR 306K. Worth a shot and should be fine for motor bearings. Dave
