What’s so special about these brass oil cans ?What the hell? A free Wilton and a brass oil can? Lol, that's like two thousand (fantasy) dollars on eBay based on some people's idea of starting prices!
nothing really. Just that they are cool, and some youtubers made them super valuable and popular. I have 2, but I can't tell you what makes them so great. What’s so special about these brass oil cans ?
I don't know, I use Reilangs where it counts! Sometimes, you just gotta choose function over fetish. What’s so special about these brass oil cans ?
Do you know a US source for these? I bought a couple from Griot's Garage, decades ago, but they no longer seem to carry them.I don't know, I use Reilangs where it counts! Sometimes, you just gotta choose function over fetish.
Just buy from Jens Putzier, they’re happy to ship to the U.S.Do you know a US source for these?
I ordered mine from Putzier in Germany, but the shipping was quick and the cost wasn't prohibitive (and no tax offsets the shipping). They are Swiss made, so they ain't cheap, but every time I use them I'm glad I got them. I wish I'd gotten two more.Do you know a US source for these? A web search Got me to the UK, Germany, no US.
Oh so they leak and don’t work well like othersI don't know, I use Reilangs where it counts! Sometimes, you just gotta choose function over fetish.
I don't really know. I think some people like brass oil cans. My dad collected them and put them on a display shelf in his shop. My thing is I prefer ground tools over inserts, which is contrary to my assertion that those Swiss oil cans are a real eye-opener over the antiques. My original point was that you got two items for free that generate a lot of buzz and list for exorbitant prices on craigslist and eBay because of it.Oh so they leak and don’t work well like others
What I can tell you from personal experience is that I work with it(EN8 bright & EN8 black here in SA) on a daily basis and it is a very good material for so many purposes. It is also heat treatable. So I give it a thumbs up. Compared to BMS (EN3B) it is also a bit harder. It machines great and if you get your DOC,feeds and speeds right,it machines beautifully. Sometimes when I want a mirror cut,I will use a insert with a 04 radius and slow speed and feed(you can play with this) and a DOC of about 0.05mm to 0.25mm and that gives me a perfect finnish. I will add pics of the material grade specs I have in my suppliers booklet. I wil also add the specs of EN3B (BMS) just for comparison sake. Just for clarity I think the D in EN8 D stands for drawn, someone must correct me if I am wrong. Over here the term drawn and bright are used. Hope I was of help.yep, I looked that up, but would like to know how it works for you.
