I had an awful incident this past week. A pitbull mauled a 14 year old cat of mine. The owner, who lives blocks away I was told, called the police and claimed the cat jumped at the pitbull, in the street, and the pitbull reacted by clamping down on her arm. When I found her, the arm was just hanging. I took her to the vet, who x-rayed the arm, and it was clean broken in 2 places, and there was also a fracture at the elbow also. I have no way of knowing what happened exactly, but I have the sinking feeling the cat didn't do any attacking. Especially considering events that seemed to take place the prior day, won't go into that now. Nearly 1800$ later, the cat is dead, possibly due to negligence on part of the vet, won't get into that either.

I just would like to determine what happened. My neighbor across the street has a Ring Cam. I want to ask that they download and send me the video. The guy isn't particularly savvy technically. I need to know how it's done so I can instruct him. Thanks for any help.

The ring cam I am familiar with has a proximity sensor. It won't record anything unless the sensor is tripped.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your pet.

There is video. It was viewed by a person who said nothing useful could be gleaned from it. Problem is I think they are covering up.

This is all sounding convoluted. And believe me it may be that weird. But there's something on there I may need to see.

If there is footage, they can use the Ring app to download the clip. From there it can be sent/posted the same way any other video clip can. May also be possible from their website, but I use the app. Here is the first result from Youtube from a Google search.

How to Download Clips from Ring App

Sorry about your cat- I know sometimes if a cat's leg is badly broken it will never heal right and the vet will often want to euthanize
Happened to me. I've learned the hard way to keep my cats in- too many dangers out there

To view any recording on the ring your neighbor would go to his ring app. On the app it would have a timeline of any movement/recording that had happen throughout the day. Click on timestamp and view what was recorded at that time.
If he doesn’t have ring account paying a monthly fee. The videos are not recorded and stored so their will not be any record of videos.

Sue the owners of the dog. The law is clear that a dog must be under control of its owner at all times. "Who started it" does not matter. The fact that the dog was blocks away, unsupervised, is enough evidence, provided you can prove it was that dog. But it sounds like the owners admitted it was theirs.

Nonsense, they can amputate the leg and the cat will be fine. But at 14yo. That's a little old.
