Hi guys, it must be X'mas, my missus is allowing me to buy some more toys to add to my collection , So I have convinced her that I need some more wood working toys, so went out and bought a 6" Jointer planer with a spiraled Shelix carbide insert head, basically it uses a planeing head that has 4 spiral rows of carbide indexable inserts instead of straight blades. Probably made by Grizzly but marketed here in Oz under the Carbatec label. Very quite in operation and possibly the quietest machine in my shed apart from my welders which surprised me.

Had to try it out as soon as I got it in through the shed door, made a pile of shavings whilst working out how to use it, it cuts very good and almost no tear out when I tested it on the most difficult piece of timber I had. On that timber I can't even get a good finish using a low angle block plane, so quite impressed. Just need to make some extension stands to support long lengths of timber for it.

Next there is a 2 HP 240V dust extractor being delivered next week. These toys aren't new but haven't done a lot of work, so should last me quite a while. I have not long ago done my large wood lathe and have almost finished off my 14" table saw, so not much room left in the shed.
I will now have to start producing wooden things to justify making and or buying all this stuff. As I said it must be Christmas!

Cheers

Hi, Just put up a post on a Jarrah dining table set I made years ago. I will try and get some more pics of projects although there won't be too many as I don't work with wood all that often.
