Mini Split install

A couple of questions...

Did you follow ALL of the installation instructions, EXACTLY?

Did you call both the selling vendor, and the warranty provider as listed in the warranty?

If yes to these, and if you purchased with your credit card, give the manufacturer one last chance, call them up, ask to speak to a manager and discuss your issue.

Tell them what lack of care that you have had, and given they are not honoring their warranty, you want to return it, with them paying shipping.

If they refuse, have your bank cancel the charge

Yes, this a replacement unit for one that failed, and it lasted almost 6 years so it was easy to install. Make sure the lines are tight, wires in the correct spots, good voltage. Not much to screw up.

I did tell ingrams I'd cancel the charge on my card. I bought it through ingrams because they have free shipping and mr cool direct charges a huge amount for shipping. The problem with canceling the charge is mr cool who handles the warranty most than likely won't care about the charge since they didn't sell it to me.

Today mr cool asked me for pictures and other info. Hopefully I'll hear something tomorrow.

Well I feel like an ac tech now. I get emails to measure ohms, then another email to check to see if the pressure switch wires are broken, check this, check that.

I wish they would just make a decision and let me know what they are going to do.

There is nothing I can fix, so just send a tech out.

I just saw a YouTube video and it showed where to bypass the low pressure switch. Did that and no code. Only ran it for a moment, but it confirms it's low on refrigerant.

I've not told mr cool that i did that yet, I'm just going through the tests they want. Hopefully they will ask eventually ask to bypass the sensor and realize the actual problem and send someone out to recharge the system.

If low, only bypass to see if it runs, do NOT run it in that mode as it will go boom.

Ok, after at last count 14 emails to mr cool tech support and threatening to cancel my credit card and file a complaint against them they said they are submitting a warranty claim for approval for a new compressor and lines.

At first after me testing everything for 2 days with a multi meter, sending pictures, ect. they said the coolant appears to be low so have a tech come out and leak test the system and send them a report on the problem. I asked who is going to pay for the tech and to have the refrigerant replaced and they said they cover parts only. I have to admit I went off on her in my email response. But it apparently worked.

Boy what an ordeal with them. I asked if the are sending a pickup tag to return the compressor and lines to them. No answer yet.

I think someone just didn't put coolant in the compressor or it leaked down at some point before I got it.

I almost wished I'd bit the bullet and spent the $10k the local heating contractor wanted for a brand name unit.

So now I wait another two weeks

I finally heard from mr cool. They are shipping a complete new 36k system, should be here on the 28th.

They didn't ask me to pay shipping but they did tell me to save the pallet and boxes to send stuff back with. They didn't say if they just wanted just the compressor or the lines and air handler also. If they don't want the air handler I'll keep it for parts.

Hopefully this one works.

Well mr cool is finally in and believe it or not (I have a hard time believing it) is working.

They sent me a complete new 4th generation system, compressor, lines, air handler. I hope I'm done with this for awhile.

I'm actually thinking about putting a second 36k backup system in, but it will be a pioneer. They are also self install capable, and I've got some experience (all bad) at installing them.
