I will be the odd man here, and suggest something retro. Hard Rubber. You can get it in a variety of colors (if you search). It machines well, and lasts a VERY long time (as cars from the 40's and 50s can attest).
I turned a knob out of ebony for my old Jeep Cherokee. Waxed and polished, it looked really good. The coloration of the grain came out nicely. But this was a manual transmission - no button.
I made a prototype out of black Delrin and it came out so good that I decided to go with that instead of looking for other materials.
Huge thanks to @KyleG for the o-ring idea! That gave the plain knob that extra something and it also solves the "slippery" issue that @mattthemuppet2 was worried about.
LOL.....this thing has more power/torque than tire so I think maybe I'll use the second part of the travel for either the front mounted machine guns or the rear mounted oil sprayer.
