Leadscrew/ACME/TRAPAZOIDAL material recomendations

Hallo guys. I need recommendations for material to use for making a shaft similar to this and I want to make a new cross slide leadscrew for my lathe at some point. Any recomendations are welcome.

1144SP is great to machine. But it isn't that weldable, if that matters to you.
 
My problem seems to be is that 1144SP is not stocked by my suppliers. What is available to me is the following list so if you can recommend near equivalent,that will help. It is not that I am clueless,it is just that I have not have an opportunity or reason to make a leadscrew.

9850 (EN24) very hard stuff
4140 (EN19)
3316 (EN36B) very good heat treatable material,I use it for backhoe pins hardened. Also very expensive.
 
To my eye, it looks more like a square thread than Acme or Trapezoidal.

This one yes,but I am asking the question in regards to the material for these type of shafts. Personaly I have not yet machined square threads but I have done trapazoidal threads for my machine vice rebuild. I guess that doing some v-thread with a stalking tool to remove most material and then the actual form tool would be the way to go. But first it would be best material for the job to sort out.

So far as material is concerned,1144 SP (Stressproof) is the go to material for leadscrews, as it can be threaded with quite coarse threads without deforming and also it cuts with a nice finish, I would wonder if there is an similar or equivalent material available in your country.
 
I need to check my metals book but I think 4140 would work well too. For a small piece like that I think you could stress relieve it yourself with a small forge or weed burner torch, then bury in some wood ash or vermiculite insulation and let it cool nice and slow.
Working off old memory here, so I could be wrong....
 
I bought a 4140 lead screw from Green Bay Mfg. Then drilled and tapped it brazed and the mating part of the cross slide shaft on my Clausing 5913 lathe. Now I have less that .001 back lash.
