Lathe Setup Problems

Ok, I belive the gears are not setup right. I will check and see how they are set and let yall know later today.

Be careful changing gears with the lathe under power. Use your hand to roll the chuck if they won't mesh to be on the safe side.

This is how the lathe came set up, it has the 30 T at the top. 60 T at the bottom, 127T in the center on top, and the 120T in the center behind the 127T.

What do i need to do to get the power feed and threading to work?

Jonathan,

If the 60T gear turns when the lathe is running but the feed screw doesn't, then the levers are not set up right or fully engaged. Is this a new lathe or a used one? If used, it's possible that some knucklehead may have run the carriage into the headstock and sheared the pin in the feed screw.

All the gears turn, even the 60T gear. It is a new lathe, made in July 2012, i am the original owner.

Thanks

Jonathan,

The 60T gear is the input to the quick change gearbox. If that is turning then the issue has to be that the levers are not set properly or not fully engaged, unless the shear pin somehow got left out at the factory. Can you see if there is one present in the left end of the feed screw where it enters the QCGB?

Keep at it, you'll figure it out. Sometimes these lathes have unique personalities or quirks and take a while to figure out, kind of like women.

I hope to get it fiqured out soon. I will try turning the knobs some more this evening and see if it engages. It appears that the sear pins are fine.

At least the spindle is turning fine, so if I have to pull anything apart, I will wait till I finish breaking it in.

Thanks, I got it. The C D knob was on C, but wasn't fully engaging, I twisted in while the lathe was turning, and it engaged.
