Japanese hex keys with a neat twist

I just received the 1/2 drive taper end sockets from Eight. Have you ever simply felt quality? Beautiful machining. I can't wait to try one breaking loose a few bolts.

Great explanation of the taper end concept.

Interesting thing to note. The holes in the sockets seem to be broached. The hex shafts have 100% contact inside the socket. Very nice.

I pushed my luck today with the included pipe and the 6mm taper head. The maintenance guy was sure I would break off the ball end breaking loose three socket head cap screws earlier today. It held up fine under considerable stress and broke them loose easily.

I'm ordering 75mm long taper head bits today. I have the 65mm straight hex bits I use nearly daily. Very impressive tools so far.

I'm using my Eight keys near daily, too. I would say they've exceeded my expectations in every way. Living up to the hype. I am trying as hard as I can to resist buying three more sets to replace the Chescos and Kobalts that I have at dedicated workstations around the shop and basement.

It just goes to show that sometimes, to get good tools you need to manufacture them at a slower pace. For that cool, crisp, cold-filtered, beechwood aged sort of vibe. It's refreshing.

I just got these taper ball bits today. Same basic geometry. I can't wait to try them out.
