The springs are normally quite weak. It just has to be strong enough to seat the valve. The tank pressure will help to keep it seated.
Oh and IT WORKS PERFECTLY!!
I learned quite a bit about this old Craftsman 5 HP 230 volt 10 SCFM at 90 psi compressor.
Jeff, on a check valve, the spring only has to return the ball against the seat, the strong back pressure from the tank keeps it tightly sealed. Any additional spring pressure will fight the production of compressed air.The spring feels weak.
I’ll replace it.
