How much rotational resistance should a live center have?

I am thinking that there is no bag in there at all.
I agree, but then that leaves the second question. Will the bearings mysteriously get lubed, and be better after he follows the instructions?

For the price, I would think they would do their special break in procedure at the factory, or spell it out better in the instructions.

My money is on Erik returning it.
 
No instructions were included with the tool.

I didn’t mention it yet, but I bought this from the same company. It arrives tomorrow or Friday.


Now I am questioning if buying import live centers was the right choice. The geometric profiles were perfect, and I certainly wasn’t going to spend more money. I spent about 3 hours scouring the internet for MT4 live centers, and that is what I came up with.
 
Run the tool in on your lathe and see what happens.
The lathe won’t be here for another 5 weeks or so, but I can take these live centers to school in a week & check them out there.

I can see a budget live center running better after a bit of use. It happens with my trailer wheels after they have been repacked with grease. But I can't imagine how to run a live center without loading it. Friction on the point should be low enough that driving the center should require some axial pressure but not excessively.

The DRO scale on the cross slide does make it crowded with the cutting tool and tailstock sometimes.

I sure would feel sorry for Z Live Center if I returned both live centers, but if I had to do it over again I would put more emphasis on quality than geometry and price.
 
I got a nice Easson with mag scales for mine from the UK a while back. With the dollar as strong as it was it was a hundred bucks cheaper than anything in the states.
