Have you had heavy machinery shipped and delivered? How did it go?

We have a few truck bed mounted cranes in East Texas, but like Paddy said, people tend to bottom lift the mid weight stuff. In my area, there are millions and millions (slight exaggeration) of what we call gin pole trucks. Welder/pipefitters in the oilfields use them, as well as builders to lift trusses, etc.

Size varies.

Some gp trucks are good for a couple of thousand pounds, and some several tons.

Sounds interesting, but I don't speak Aus. ;)

What is "hi-abs"?
I'm afraid our Aussie friend is correct. There is a severe lack of hi-abs in this country IMO. ;)
This is a SMALL one. They get MUCH bigger. ;D

I think every big box hardware store in the US should have a fleet of these in all sizes available for rental. LOL.

What is "hi-abs"? What is "boogie drive"? You're correct, we don't have many trucks here with lifts attached that are configured for lifting loads. Almost all of them (and there are millions) are equipped with a bucket to carry a man up to work on pole-mounted utilities such as electrical, cable TV or telephone. We seem to have a mentality here that if it's really heavy, you should lift it from the bottom. Only

Oops sorry.
Hi-Ab is a brand of truck mounted crane, there are other brands such as Palfinger as well. Here in Aus, Hi-Ab has become a sort of generic name for a truck mounted crane.
Boggie drive is what we call a truck with a double drive ie two drive axles.

Ah, we call those "tandem axle" trucks. Wish we had more of those here! They're around, but rare. Especially on an Isuzu chassis. We only get the smaller version of the Isuzu line, nothing that big from what I've seen. ;)

Thats just a pic I pinched off the net. Its actually a truck in New Zealand, though we also have them here. The one that I got to move my mill had the crane at the rear of the tray but a lot of them have them at the front. The truck that I got also had airbag suspension which was set up so the operator could lower the back of the truck down which was pretty neat. Probably dropped the rear by about 8"
Here in Aus there are also cranes mounted behind the cab on semi prime movers (not sure what you call them over there, the front part of a semi ??)
Also common here on brick trucks. crane fitted with a grab that clamps on the sides of the bottom layer of bricks to lift the whole stack. Not wooden pallet. Do you have them over there?

Don't see very many large Isuzu trucks, but once in a while. We do have that style of truck that runs bricks, and gypsum board (drywall, sheetrock) and such. Grass sod comes on pallets here, and they have a three wheeled rough terrain forklift of a sort that unloads and sits it anywhere on a job site. Pretty slick setup. They drive it up to the rear of the truck bed and stick the forks into sockets and lift up the chassis of the lift and lock it onto the truck for transport.

I think here we call them semi trucks, or just the cab portion a tractor. Tractor-trailer rig is the entire unit.

We have then here as well, pretty neat setup.

Those are exactly what we need for delivering lathes and mills. Never mind a "box truck" with a liftgate, which is pretty worthless for a large mill that is hard to get on the liftgate.

Best,
