Cast iron grinder stand base

I use a 3" round tube welded to a 1/2" flat plate which is bolted to the floor. It holds a HF bench grinder, DIY porta band table, champer grinder and the 2x72 belt grinder.

Don't those discs have a more agro name- "harrow" or something? Not a farmer as you can tell

LOL more plow disc, more cowbell
Yes, they are from a disk harrow.
There are other types of harrow too - spring tooth, spike tooth, etc.

I’ve posted another picture of a couple grinders. The one on the right is a 12” Queen City and the base for this grinder is a steel weldment. The pedestal has a slight taper as it progresses to the top, and the magnetic starter is mounted flush inside with an access plate on the back. It is all about ¼” thick and has leveling screws in the base. It should be fairly easy to fabricate this one.

I have noticed most of those older cast iron pedestal stands are too short for me. I recently acquired a Central Machinery tool grinder which had been barely used. I also refuse to pay the price of the too short for me cast iron pedestal. I also don’t have the scrap steel laying around so I have decided to make one from wood, paint it to make it look like steel. I have some large pieces of scrap 1.5” plywood which I will use for the base and top mounting shelf. The column I plan to use 2x8s and 2x10s. Also plan to hinge part of one side with a shelf inside to hold some grinding supplies. Most all my tools in my garage are on wheels because of space. I just haven’t decided how to easily make it stable with small casters.

The Baldor GA16 I just purchased is really tall, if anything I need to shorten it. Well the giant Baldor grinder didn't help.
Yes, the new ones are taller than the old ones. The GA16 is listed at 34". I am planing mine at 36". My back is bad standing even for short periods. Even worse with a slight bend or stooping.
