Canon

So I am not an idiot and know when I am in uncharted waters!!! But definitely have the capacity with my hobby shop to finish it with some much needed supervision and guidance!!! Think it would be awesome to try at the farm or wherever these guys get together!!
The winter time is when things slow down with work and I have time for this stuff

I also have all this steel that came with the deal was said is enough to finish the project. He was an older gentleman from P.A. That was a blacksmith and also had a machine shop .

This is all from 3-4 years ago !! It’s been an awesome conversation piece when people come over / friends but after I rework the rest of my shop / pole building this year that will be the next big project between the side work with machining that I do for people. I still want to stop by your place with all the stuff you have for sale I’m sure there is something I could use LOL !!!

One less machine this weekend . The Bridgeport is being yanked out . I just set the chains and straps up so it should go easy . :encourage:

I am looking for tooling . I have 3 mills and 3 lathes but always looking for tooling . Also a tool post grinder and rotary table !!! They have been very elusive for me !!!

Hello all so I have a question.
So with a lot of my purchase going down the machinist rabbit hole it’s always extra stuff that comes along . Does anyone in MD have any experience with Cannons ??? Basically I have one that needs to be finished and I’ve been toying with the idea for a winter project.
Thanks
Darryl
I recently finished building a scale model of a civil war cannon (not nearly as big as you're building) and I found that there are some folks with a wealth of knowledge on cannon building here: https://www.go2gbo.com/forums/blackpowder-mortar-cannon.88/
I would recommend asking for some guidance on that forum.

Looks to me like the original builder was using a separate bore piece (better material, couldn't bore the raw stock, something like that). I expect the plan was to manufacture a "front" that would match the breech end.

You're going to need a hoist, and make a carriage with some heavy timbers or a steel carriage. Hope you own a trailer... Should be pretty fun when finished.

So yes I am very fortunate to have a Bobcat and off road forklift to move stuff around . Part of the main reason I got into hobby machining because all the mills and lathes weigh so much and loading and moving cost more then the machines most of the time !!!
I think it will be a fun project to finish I just know I definitely need guidance because Cannons is something that I am unfamiliar with !!!!
