New to me Boyar-Schultz surface grinder restoration that I've embarked on. Inspired by recent threads lately, but now I have some questions and wanted to avoid hijacking other threads.

I disassembled it down to the ways and wanted to get your opinions on whether they are still good enough to make this a worthwhile project. Or an explanation on how to check them myself.
The saddle removable ways look good to me, but I'm not so sure about the table ways. The removable ways are smooth with no flaking at all. The table ways have visible flaking, but barely.

Saddle: There's a subtle mark towards the top right of the middle photo. It doesn't look like it would cause any issues.

Table: The flay way has a lot of what I'm going to call "scuffs" along the edges, but I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to look.

Any advice or opinions would be appreciated. Please don't be afraid to tell me if I need to cut my losses now. I'm not emotionally attached yet, lol.

Apparently only the table ways were flaked. Obviously there is wear, but flaking is generally only a few tenths deep, so it it may not cause an actual problem. A lot depends on your requirements, but my guess is it will be wholly adequate for your needs.

Thank you.

I'll probably blue it up and check it out tonight. There are no real requirements at the moment. I bought it on an impulse, and an enjoying the process. As far as rifle building goes, I may only need it to reach 1-2 thousandths of accuracy, but there are no other projects on the horizon.

Well,
I blued up the ways, remounted the table and cycled it back and forth at least ten times. There were no visible marks anywhere along either set of ways. What does that tell me? I would assume if there was any contact at all it would show something, but I can't think of any way they wouldn't have touched. Don't mind the hanging guard, the wrench set is still in the mail from eBay. Another issue is someone that "restored" this in the past just painted over everything with the gray. There's dirt and grime everywhere under the paint. Especially in the fasteners.

Here is the underside of the saddle that I was able to get uninstalled yesterday.

Does anyone have a line on a place to get the factory switch box? I've searched google and ebay with no luck. Thanks for looking.

A couple of suggestions.
Remove your slides again. You will see area's along the edges of the ways that it obviously hasn't been riding on, bringing those down flush with the worn ways. Don't get crazy but try to bring those lips down.
Chamfer the edges of your ways, start with a coarse file and bring about an 1/8 inch wide flat. Use a clean fine file and keep it clean.
Take your fine file and work it across the ways first diagonally one direction then diagonally the other direction
With a lubricated very fine stone (I use lemon simple green) stone the ways, keep the stone clean.
Use an orange die spotter for the one side and your blue on the other side.
The heavier your blue is the more you will see, so start a little heavier with your blue.
Once you see it start to print clean it up and repeat with less blue, so you get a more accurate print.
Oh I almost forgot, wipe your clean way surfaces with the palm of your hand before assembly, your will feel the surface imperfections and any grit.
