Now that you mention it, I have seen heads with the side hole. I just never put 2 + 2 together. Do you mean it will do ALL sizes in between the .035 and 11? And if so, how is this accomplished, I am just not picturing it right now. I mean do you have to cut down a bar length or does the head offset handle this? Thanks for the great info. ;)

The side hole will mount a bar set up to cut feeding up or down, depending in what you are doing. It should hang out near the length required to do the large bore, with fine adjustment coming from the head adjustment.

I can't say I have bored as large as 11 inches, but there isn't any reason it couldn't be done. It would be a slow process however.

Yes Randy, that is exactly what I am saying. This can be accomplished with a full set of boring bars. Mine actually had an adjustable outrigger bar that facilitates the process. When I get a chance I will take some pictures.
Basically it has 2 vertical tool hole and a horizontal one. Using all the holes one can bore a hole from .035" to 11". Realistically few people would go through that whole process. I generally use a big drill bit or a hole saw to get as big as possible initial hole and then finish up with the boring head.

Yes Randy, I realize that one would rough out the contour first. You must understand, up until now I have been using hacksaws, bandsaw, drill press, grinders and files. This mill is going to be great.

Here is the outrigger set up to provide 11" of boring capability. The outrigger is very beefy and I have had no chatter problems with it.

I through this one in just for grins. It appears to give me @15" of capability. I have never tried it. So with one 2" head I can bore holes from 0.035" to possibly 15". I can't imagine needing another boring head.

This helps immensely, this is exactly the info I am seeking. I really greatly appreciate your sharing of this and taking the time to post the pics. Sorry for being so slow on this. Now do you use the power feed with these set ups?

Oh yeah, after years without a power feed, the power feed on this new mill gets used at every opportunity. I didn't realize what I had been missing.

re. your last picture, trying to actually bore a hole running the spindle in reverse, is asking to spin the head off it's threaded shank, with possibly disastrous results--just sayin'.......
