A crack in the saddle of my hobbymat md65 lathe and the possibility to restore this

I have brazed (silver solder) CI parts and used a gas BBQ grill for pre/post heat since I didn't have an oven. It worked for me but YMMV.
I do think taking @Richard King 2 offer to put you in contact with one of his students over there is probably the best though.

Cheers,

John

Hi Litshoot,
I think this is a good idea. Let the lathe repair its own parts. Great.
I am definitely going to try this. First with a piece of metal of about 8mm thickness and roughly the same width.

(now I found on ebay (UK) the item which they call 'imperial top slide', but the base of it is included so I can mount it without problems onto the cross slide; price including sending an taxes is a little more than € 200. Which at this moment is a little too much).

First things first and you suggestion to get the hole(s) aligned is really great!

And then two holes also as Steve-F suggested.

Hi matthewsx,
Didn't think of that. To use my BBQ as an oven. So pre- and post heating could be done by me but than there is still the problem (lack of experience) of the brazing skills. My mileage on that skill is more down to zero.
But I will keep this in mind.

I will as I said earlier, but first gonna try this drilling...
