2021 POTD Thread Archive

In between visiting the local beer festival this weekend, I managed to paint / stain the workshop91716B94-1637-4762-ACBD-201A667771C7.jpeg
needs another coat, but at least its protecting the wood… i don’t know how long the original preservatives where supposed to last for, but it’s got another dose now. I also printed some little tags for my oil bottles so I know which is which, and found a spanner rack on thingiverse for my open and combo spanners. That triggered a re-arrange of the tool corner. :)

Almost done... almost done... hopefully, next weekend... Then I can move all the carp for the garden into it and free up the space in the garage for the PM lathe! arriving at the end of the year or early next year!

I know I should have finished the trusses, but wanted to at least install one panel! Next weekend I will finish installing the trusses and finish the roof...

It would be fantastic to have the space for a few tool grinders both horizontal & angular. Alas, I do not have the space, so I bought a couple of the TheMac Tool Post Grinders a few years back. Till now, I haven't needed them. Recently I bought a ragged, had a hard life, NMTB 50 to MT 3 adapter because it was cheap. When it arrived I realized right away that it doesn't deserve to touch my mill spindle until it is cleaned up. So, made an adapter to fit a tool post grinder on my lathe.

The other TheMac for clarity of as to how it mounts.

The TheMac in use with new mounting plate & ready to clean up this adapter.

Still confused on how this site loads pics as they were taken by my left handed self - yet have been flipped right side up & saved to file before attaching them here. Sorry.

I have a themac too. a different older model. mine is primarily for inside grinding.
you know you can change the pulleys to increase speed. just swap which shaft they are on.

great little precision grinders.. just make sure to oil it. I use spindle oil.. not sure if that's right.

@Firstram why was there a huge void under that porch? Looks like it was designed that way with the rebar. from your first shot, it looked in good shape... but I guess it had problems...damn, that's wierd the way it was just floating there. Not what I would have expected. I guess they never tamped it down layer by layer when backfilling it.

Floating slabs used to be common in North Carolina and work fine when done properly. The rebar was at the very bottom of a 2 1/2" thick slab with a 2" mud bed for the original tile. 45 years worth of rust spalled the slab to the point it was sagged about an inch in 6 feet. Not only sagged, it was bouncy and popping all of the tile. Due to contractors skimping and porches failing, residential floating slabs don't meet code anymore.
