I’ve never got smooth hummus, with a log splitter, a wood chipper works better........

Is there some way to make these gigantic images smaller?

Yes, load the image into something like photoshop. gimp or whatever and re-size them to 600x800 pixels and re save then up load those.
I do it to all my images, it only takes a few seconds.
