2015 POTD Thread Archive

Not so much what I did in the shop, but last week I ordered a pair of arbors for my Atlas horizontal mill from tools4cheap while I still could, and had a bit of money on-hand. They showed up yesterday, and despite the box stating made in china, they're actually pretty nice. I have the 7/8" and 1 1/4" arbor, in addition to the clapped-out one that came with the machine.

Now, I just got to turn up some spacers, and get some cutters to fit the arbors. :)

ogberi, be sure the faces of your spacers are absolutely as parallel as you can possibly make them. Otherwise the arbor will bow when you tighten the nut on it. Pardon if you already knew that.

Greg,
great looking box, I've been out of wood work since HS, but remember "flocking" each others faces only to get detention haha. The pump looked like an old pesticide thingamajig, I had not heard that term in many many moons.
On a serious note, your wood skills are inspiring. She's gonna love it!

Thanks for viewing,
Another Christmas present.
My one son is always working on a bicycle. So santa's bringing him a bike stand.
This mounts on a vertical tube and clamps the frame I guess.
The jaws will be lined with leather for a no marring surface, the leads screw was salvaged from a car scissor jack, the clamps are split cotters.

Nice stand, what about plasti- dipping the clamps? A few coats would do the trick and comes in various colors.

My boys have been very enthusiastic in pursuing welding at school so I decided to get another tool in my arsenal that would help them practice at home. Picked up a 3yr old Miller Sycrowave 250dx and added the Arc Welding Stinger to it. They have been giving it a workout. They declare best Christmas gift ever!

Technically I finished making these Sunday night, but I didn't finish processing the video till last night. This is my take on the famous doubleboost Ikea task lights. Those of you that chimed in on prints thread will recognize the blueprints.

You will like that Miller Synchrowave 250. We have had one at work for about the past 15 years and it is an excellent machine. Ours doesn't have any of the bells and whistles like pulse or anything but is just the standard square wave machine. Great transformer machine.

Mike.

Kudos to you! The best thing a parent can do is encourage the interests of their children. This could help lead them to careers.
Not to mention it's great for Dad to have around too.....;)

RJ, im curios of the clearance you put into the spider and hole in the delrin, they look pretty close and wonder if your gonna have trouble with side deflection

Chevy,

There is a .100" difference in the diameters giving a clearance of .050" per side. I am expecting (hopefully;)) to be able to see a deflection of .001" or less so there should be no problem. If you can view SolidWorks files, I can post them.
