What's your guys go to for paint that will be BRUSHED in Canada? I know a lot of people like Tractor Supply enamel or Rustoleum, but we don't have those here in Canada.

All I've seen in stores is Tremclad (a Rustoleum brand), but don't think it's the same quality...

I am just doing a brushed paint job, nothing too fancy. I know I can get 2 part paint from an automotive auto body supply shop that will last 2 lifetimes...I just don't need that (also I don't want to pay $100 for a can of paint). I'm a hobbyist that will use the machine a few times a month maybe.

Just looking for something that will not take 2 years to dry (Tremclad takes a loooooooong time), and isn't too expensive.

Thanks

What material do you want to paint?
How much do you have to paint?
Why brush instead of spray?
Do you have to match color?
I would suggest that you ask a paint specialist (like Aero-sol) in your area.
if you ever find a good paint that dries quickly and is durable for cheap $, please let me know.

1) Cast iron lathe
2) The whole thing
3) Easier, no room to spray, don't feel like masking everything
4) No, although I would like the gloss smoke gray from Rustoleum...which we can't get.

If you are doing a whole lathe and want the paint to resist oil, etc. I would look up an industrial paint supplier.
Our local Sherwin-Williams has an industrial section that has specialized paint. It seems to me that after going to the trouble of prepping the cast iron and painting by brush, then using a top quality paint is in order. The extra cost of buying good paint will pay off in the long run.
Being in Montreal you should be able to get just about anything that exists. Maybe try these people https://www.linkedin.com/company/sherwin-williams-industrial-paint
Sorry that I'm not much help. Good luck.

I you want a good paint, your going to have to pay a premium price, if you want cheap go tremclad.
Interlux makes a good epoxy paint, not cheap but you'll only paint once.

Napa sells an industrial enamel under their name, they have a hardener that the paint guy claims converts it to a urethane. I've had good luck spraying it on equipment that will be outside. Nice hard finish that doesn't seam to fade in the sun like Tremclad.
A little while ago I built a windmill? for someone, recommended that paint, he bought their urethane instead, uses the same hardener. I brushed that on, went smooth as glass with not a hint of a brush stroke.
Not cheap but good results.

Tremclad. After a week or so it does harden up nicely.

If you mix up something custom make sure you know the ratios of the base colours & write them down, DAMHIK. :(
