Y-axis alignment on the mill

ok, i was able to use a 1-2-3 block in the vice and measured .001" from one end of the 3 inch side to the other.
seems like a lot for such a short travel; any thoughts?

Was the block in the center of the vise ?
Does not seem that far out, IMHO.
I have never heard of or seen the Y axis trammed.

could not have put it in the center and still indicated. i have it laying flat on the 'floor' of the vice

Put some parallels under the block and put it in the center of the vise.
The vise jaw is not holding the block parallel.

If your X is in, the Y will be, unless the vise or machine is off.
