Which Surface Grinder?

That's definitely an older P-M. could be worth a look. Could be totally clapped out. But of you are cramped for space I can tell you that a grinder that size consumes floor space.
 
If I really want a clapped out machine (I don't - LOL), I bet this one would work ;)

I will be looking for a bit of a project, but not something that has fewer good parts than bad.

I'd look at this one.
Lee Peedin of the Tin Barn on YT has one that he's done up really nicely.
